Miscellaneous

Marine suppliers

'Boats USA' and 'West Marine' carry NOAA charts for the Northeast Coast, will order others. The stores are also good sources for marine electronics, hardware, and fiberglass materials, but nothing specialized for kayaks.

NOAA

Tidal data is widely available in newspapers, small booklets at outfitters, online at numerous sites on the internet, and from commercial programs for personal computers.

For the technically inclined there is the 'Manual of Harmonic Analysis and Prediction of Tides', Special Publication #98, published by the Coast and Geodetic Survey, US Dept. of Commerce. Among commercial versions of this material for home computers is 'Tides and Currents', by Nautical Software, gives NOAA tidal data in two regions, East and West. The two regions cover coastlines of the entire Continental US, Canada, Central America, the Bahamas, Alaska, and Hawaii.

NOAA charts in digital form are available from many sources, too large a list to give here; see the marine supply house catalogs. Also available are computer programs in support of GPS navigation devices.

Much information related to GPS navigation is scattered over the internet. A good place to start is http://joe.mehaffey.com for data on consumer-level devices and an extensive list of links to other sites.

Boston Harbor Police

give information on boating within Boston Harbor, 617-343-4721. For information about the Harbor Islands, including camping, contact the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Management and Environmental Police, Hingham, at 781-740-1605.

The Massachusetts Public Access Board

publishes 'Public Access to the Waters of Mass.', with data on recreational water sites throughout the state including coastal sites; phone 617-727-1843. Most of this is also available online at http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/PAB/Pab_toc.htm

Worldwide Adventure Sports

a "wiki" site The objective of this site is to become an online reference point for all adventure sports the world over.. Users from all around the world can easily add photos and articles. It includes a kayaking section.
